About Interactive Content

Description of Interactive Content of the Web Site

The interactive elements of the web site are:

1) Domain related email addresses e.g. as per the ‘Contact Us’ web site page.

2) Blogs – Website News Blog and RMSA News Blog.

3) Submission Forms e.g.  Membership Application Form.

Interactive elements are defined as web site content that can be activated by web site visitors from within an RMSA web site browser session.

Domain related email addresses:

The web site hosting package that has been set up provides for 10 email addresses linked to the www.baermsa.org.uk domain name – we are currently using 4 out of our allocation:

webmaster@baermsa.org.uk – hosting service automatically forwards emails to the Webmaster’s personal email address.

membership@baermsa.org.uk –hosting service automatically forwards emails to the Membership Secretary’s personal email address.

enquiries@baermsa.org.uk – hosting service automatically forwards emails to the Chairman’s personal email address.

events@baermsa.org.uk – hosting service automatically forwards emails to the Social Secretary’s personal email address.

The purpose of this type of email address is to prevent personal email addresses being visible from within the web site. Emails created using these email addresses are sent to the hosting providers remote secure email server and are automatically forwarded to the nominated personal email address.  I have set the forwarding service to delete these emails from the hosting provider’s server once forwarding has been successfully achieved for each email i.e. nothing is retained on the remote email server. Please note that should the recipient reply to an incoming email, his/her personal email address will be revealed to the emailer as per any email dialogue.

Blogs:

Blogs (weblogs) are used to communicate items of news to visitors to the web site:

The Website News Blog is managed by the Webmaster to alert members to updates to the web site e.g. new content etc.

The RMSA News Blog is intended to alert members to RMSA items of news e.g. selected items from committee meetings as discussed at the last meeting.  Currently, only the Webmaster and Chairman has access to posting items on this blog although this can be changed.  Any member can post comments relating to any of the postings from within the blog browser session.

The postings and comments are held on a remote secure server hosted by the web authoring software provider (Serif) and are not contained within the RMSA web site. Members can subscribe to be alerted to blog updates by email and will receive an email via my email address.

Submission Forms:

The following forms are contained within the ‘Contact Us’ section of the web site:

RMSA Membership Application Form – used by prospective members to apply for RMSA membership – sent to the Membership Secretary.

Blog Update Mailing List Form – used by members to apply to be added to the blog update emailing list – sent to the Webmaster.

Memorabilia Photo Upload Form – used by members to send in memorabilia photos – sent to the Webmaster.

Error Report Form – used by members to report web site errors/bugs – sent to the Webmaster.

Enhancement Request Form – used by members to request improvements to the web site – sent to the Webmaster.

Form information is sent to the Serif secure remote server (similar to blogs above) and emailed to the nominated recipient for appropriate action.  The form content is then automatically deleted from the remote server.

Please note that for both (1) and (3) above, should the recipient of a domain name email or form email, inadvertently delete the email, there is no possibility of replacing the email because, as mentioned, they will have been deleted from the remote servers – be careful in case they are regarded as ‘junk’ email by your email service!
